What is Making Tax Digital for landlords?

Making Tax Digital (MTD) is HMRC’s programme to move landlords and other taxpayers to digital record keeping and digital submissions. Instead of gathering paperwork at year end, you keep your rental income and expenses in a digital format and send updates to HMRC using compatible software. The aim is to reduce errors, make reporting more consistent, and give you a clearer picture of your tax position during the year rather than only at Self Assessment time.
