Answers to the most common questions about tenant payments, maintenance, documents or just getting started using August.

How do landlords invite their tenants to the app?

To invite a Tenant, simply create your property and add the tenancy details in the app. Once complete, you can add your tenant's phone number in the Add Tenant section. You remain responsible for ensuring your tenancy terms are accurately reflected when uploading to August.

During our early phase, only the lead Tenant is responsible for paying rent via the August app. If multiple tenants pay rent, Landlords should appoint one as the lead Tenant.

Do my tenants need to be added to August?

While it's not mandatory to add your tenants, August's tenant app for UK renters lets tenants report maintenance to landlords, view documents, and track rent payments from one place. We strong recommend adding your Tenants to make full use of all features and great more value from August.

01

What is August for tenants?

August for tenants is a simple rental app that helps renters keep everything important in one place. Instead of juggling texts, emails, paperwork and payment reminders, tenants can use August to stay on top of rent, report issues, receive updates and access key tenancy documents through one app. August is designed to make renting feel more organised, transparent and less stressful. Because August connects landlords and tenants in the same platform, it helps reduce the usual back-and-forth that happens when information is scattered across different channels. Tenants get a clearer view of what is due, what has been shared and what is happening with their property, all without needing to chase for updates.

02

What can tenants do in the app?

Tenants can use August to pay rent, track payment history, report maintenance issues, receive reminders and access tenancy documents in one place. The app is built around the parts of renting that people need to come back to regularly, so it is not just somewhere to store information, but something genuinely useful in day-to-day tenancy management. If the landlord has enabled the relevant features, tenants can also get alerts before rent is due, receive updates when maintenance requests move forward, and keep a clear record of what has been paid and when. That makes it easier to stay organised and gives both sides a shared source of truth.

03

How rent payments work

August gives tenants a clearer way to manage rent. If rent payments are enabled by the landlord, tenants can pay directly through the app and track their payment history in one place. The app can also send reminders before rent is due, on the due date and when a payment is late, helping tenants stay on top of deadlines without awkward calls or last-minute chasing. The aim is to make rent feel straightforward. Rather than relying on memory, screenshots or separate bank references, tenants can see what is due and keep an accessible timeline of past payments. That gives them a better record for their own reference and a simpler experience overall.

04

How maintenance reporting works

August makes it easier for tenants to report problems as soon as they notice them. Instead of sending messages across different channels and wondering whether anything is happening, tenants can raise issues in the app and follow updates as they happen. This creates a clearer record of when something was reported and helps prevent requests from getting lost. For tenants, that means less chasing and more visibility. They can report an issue, keep track of progress and see when the request has moved forward. It is a much cleaner process than scattered texts, calls or email threads, especially for repairs that need follow-up over time.

05

What documents tenants can access

August gives tenants one place to access important tenancy documents whenever they need them. That can include tenancy agreements, receipts and other shared records, without needing to search through old emails or message threads. Your site also describes tenants being able to access documents such as safety certificates, EPCs, EICRs, inventories and deposit-related information through the platform. Having these documents stored in one place makes everyday renting easier. Whether a tenant wants to check the terms of the tenancy, confirm what has been shared or pull up a document quickly, the app gives them a more reliable and organised way to do it.

Yes. August is free for tenants to use. Your site states that tenants never pay to use August, and that there are no fees charged to tenants for rent payments made through Open Banking. That matters because it removes friction. If a landlord invites a tenant to August, the tenant can use the app to manage rent, maintenance and documents without having to take out a subscription or worry about hidden charges.
