August shortlisted for Disruptive Innovator of the Year at Property Week's Tech Innovation Awards

LONDON – 29th July 2026 – August, the all-in-one rental app for small landlords, has been named a finalist for Disruptive Innovator of the Year at Property Week's Tech Innovation Awards 2026, a category recognising the companies challenging established ways of working in the UK property industry.

The shortlisting is one of three August has received in this year's programme, alongside Best Property Management Solution (Residential) and Residential Innovation in PropTech. Winners will be announced at the Tech Innovation Forum and Awards on 16 October 2026 at the Kia Oval in London.

What are Property Week's Tech Innovation Awards?

Property Week's Tech Innovation Awards celebrate the technologies transforming the UK property industry, with 21 categories covering residential and commercial real estate, affordable housing, smart buildings, legal technology, governance and artificial intelligence. Entries are free and open to companies of any size, and are judged on innovation and on demonstrable outcomes rather than on scale.

The Disruptive Innovator of the Year category looks for organisations that have changed the terms on which something in the property sector is done, whether through business model, technology or market access. It is a category where a smaller company can be measured on the same footing as an established one.

Why was August shortlisted?

For most of the past two decades, property management software of any real depth has been built and priced for letting agents and professional portfolio managers. The landlord with one or two properties, who represents the large majority of the UK private rented sector, has typically been left with a spreadsheet, a shoebox of receipts, or nothing at all.

August was built to close that gap rather than to compete for agency contracts. The platform is free to use for up to two tenancies, with paid plans starting at £8.99 a month, which puts FCA-regulated open banking rent tracking, automated compliance monitoring, document management and HMRC-recognised Making Tax Digital submissions within reach of a landlord for whom a four-figure annual software licence was never a realistic option.

The second element is distribution. August is a genuine mobile product on iOS and Android as well as the web, which matters for a user who manages property in the gaps around a job. The third is the AI layer, August Intelligence, which gives a landlord without an agent or a compliance team a way to ask questions about their own portfolio and get a grounded answer.

What does it mean?

Recognition in a disruption category from an established industry title carries a particular weight, because the judging panel is drawn from the incumbents whose market the category is about. Being shortlisted suggests the shift August is arguing for, which is that self-managing landlords deserve the same quality of tooling as professionals, is now accepted as a serious proposition rather than a niche one.

"Disruption is an overused word in our sector, so I want to be precise about what we think we have changed," said Richard Samuel, CEO of August. "Software of this quality has historically been priced for letting agents and professional portfolio managers, which left the landlord with one or two properties choosing between a spreadsheet and nothing at all. We made the platform free at the point of entry and built regulated open banking, compliance tracking and HMRC-recognised tax submission into a product that costs less per month than a single hour of an accountant's time. That is the disruption, and the judges recognising it is encouraging."

The winners will be announced at the Kia Oval on 16 October 2026.
