August named Real Estate Mobile App of the Year at the PropTech Breakthrough Awards

LONDON – 13th August 2026 – August, the all-in-one rental app for small landlords, has been named winner of Real Estate Mobile App of the Year in the sixth annual PropTech Breakthrough Awards, the global programme recognising the most innovative companies, products and solutions in real estate technology.
The award places August alongside winners drawn from thousands of entries submitted from around the world, and marks the company's first international recognition following a run of UK industry shortlistings. It reflects a deliberate product decision taken early in August's development, which was to treat the phone as the primary place landlords manage their properties rather than as a reduced version of a desktop tool.
What are the PropTech Breakthrough Awards?
The PropTech Breakthrough Awards are run by Tech Breakthrough, an independent market intelligence organisation that has operated recognition programmes across competitive technology sectors since 2014. The property programme evaluates companies and products across the full breadth of real estate technology, from property management platforms and smart building systems to artificial intelligence, transaction tools and financing.
Entries are assessed by an independent panel against innovation, performance, user experience, functionality, market impact and value. The programme draws entries from more than a dozen countries each year and covers everything from early-stage startups through to established global operators. Winners of the 2026 programme were announced publicly on 13 August 2026.
Why did August win?
August is built for the landlord who manages one or two properties alongside a job, which means the work rarely happens at a desk. A boiler fails during the school run. A tenant queries a rent payment on a Sunday evening. A gas safety certificate expires while the landlord is abroad. The app is designed for those moments, with the full platform available on iOS and Android as well as the web.
That full platform brings rent tracking through regulated open banking, compliance monitoring with automatic reminders, document storage, maintenance reporting, expense tracking and in-app messaging with tenants into a single place. August Intelligence, the platform's AI property assistant, answers landlord questions using the context of their own portfolio. The app is also recognised by HMRC for Making Tax Digital for Income Tax, so quarterly submissions can be prepared and filed from the same phone the landlord uses to log a repair.
What does it mean?
Winning a global category against the leading names in real estate technology is significant for a company built for a segment of the market that has historically been served last. Software of this depth has traditionally been designed for letting agents and professional portfolio managers, with the self-managing landlord left to make do with spreadsheets. The award is external confirmation that a mobile-first product built specifically for that landlord can compete on quality with anything in the sector.
"Landlords do not manage their properties from behind a desk," said Richard Samuel, CEO of August. "They deal with a boiler failure on the school run and a rent query on a Sunday evening. We built August to work in those moments, which meant treating the phone as the primary place the work gets done rather than a cut-down version of the web app. To win a global award for that decision, judged against the best real estate apps in the world, tells us we read our users correctly."
August continues to invest in the mobile experience, with further releases planned across the remainder of 2026. Recent updates are documented in the company's app release notes.
