What is Stamp Duty?

Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) is a government tax you pay when buying property or land in England and Northern Ireland. In Scotland, it’s called Land and Buildings Transaction Tax (LBTT), and in Wales, it’s Land Transaction Tax (LTT).
