August shortlisted for Residential Innovation in PropTech at Property Week's Tech Innovation Awards

LONDON – 13th August 2026 – August, the all-in-one rental app for small landlords, has been named a finalist for Residential Innovation in PropTech at Property Week's Tech Innovation Awards 2026, a category recognising technology delivering measurable improvement in the residential property sector.

It is the third shortlisting August has received in this year's programme, alongside Best Property Management Solution (Residential) and Disruptive Innovator of the Year. Winners will be announced at the Tech Innovation Forum and Awards on 16 October 2026 at the Kia Oval in London.

What are Property Week's Tech Innovation Awards?

Property Week's Tech Innovation Awards were launched in 2025 to recognise the technologies transforming the UK property industry. The 2026 programme spans 21 categories and pairs the awards with a daytime forum examining the trends and breakthroughs shaping PropTech. Entries are judged on innovation and on quantifiable outcomes, supported by platform metrics, case studies and user evidence.

The Residential Innovation in PropTech category focuses specifically on the residential sector, recognising technology that improves how homes are let, managed and lived in.

Why was August shortlisted?

The past eighteen months have transformed what the law requires of a residential landlord in England. The Renters' Rights Act came into force on 1 May 2026, abolishing Section 21 and converting every assured shorthold tenancy to a periodic tenancy, alongside changes to possession grounds, rent increase procedure and the standard of repair a landlord must maintain. Separately, Making Tax Digital for Income Tax has changed how landlords keep records and report to HMRC, with the first quarterly deadline having passed on 7 August 2026.

Most of the landlords affected are not professionals. They have one or two properties, no compliance team and no in-house accountant. August was shortlisted for closing that gap in practical terms rather than in principle. The platform tracks compliance deadlines and prompts before certificates expire, generates and stores the documents a tenancy now requires, records rent and expenses in the format HMRC expects, and files quarterly submissions directly as an HMRC-recognised product.

August also maintains a free Renters' Rights Act hub and a selective licensing checker available to any landlord, whether or not they use the app, alongside partnerships with landlord associations including the East Midlands Landlords Association, the East Midlands Property Owners and the Southern Landlords Association.

What does it mean?

Recognition in a residential category is meaningful because it is judged on outcomes for the sector rather than on the sophistication of the technology. A well-built platform that no small landlord adopts changes nothing about compliance rates in the private rented sector. The shortlisting reflects a judgement that August is reaching the landlords who most needed help and giving them something they will actually use.
