August becomes an SWLA Trade Provider, with a discount for South West Landlords Association members

Plymouth, 1 July 2026 — August, the property management platform for self-managing residential landlords, has become a Trade Provider for the South West Landlords Association (SWLA), with a discount available to SWLA members.

Formed in Plymouth in 1986 as the Devon and Cornwall Small Landlords' Association, SWLA is the largest regional landlord association in the UK, with over 1,000 members. It runs its own offices and staff, represents members to local, regional and central government, and is a founder member of the West of England Rental Standard. Its Trade Directory lists suppliers offering services and discounts to the membership.

SWLA's distinguishing feature is how seriously it takes training. Its landlord accreditation course covers tenancy agreements, deposits, possession grounds, HMOs, gas and electrical safety and inventories, and more than a thousand landlords have completed it. That produces a membership that already knows what its obligations are and knows how much time those obligations take to evidence.

Making Tax Digital for Income Tax has added to that load. Landlords with property or sole trader income above £50,000 a year are now filing quarterly, and quarterly filing only works if the underlying records are already in order. August is HMRC-recognised for Making Tax Digital and brings rent tracking through FCA-regulated open banking, compliance and document management and tenancy records into the same place, across web, iOS and Android.

"SWLA members are among the best-trained landlords in the country, so they don't need telling what their obligations are," said Richard Samuel, CEO of August. "What they need is somewhere for the evidence to live. Quarterly MTD filing punishes anyone whose figures are scattered across bank statements and spreadsheets, and that is the specific problem we built August to remove."
